Question for ND or Mike

My question(s) is for to you is in the picture there is what appears to be an electrical harness "shield".

Was this standard equipment for dents for 73 -79 or only on certain models?

I vaguely remember if my truck had one, from the times of changing the oil, plugs, etc for my dad growing up.

I have seen trucks both with and without it
this picture I borrowed(hijacked from a fellow FTE'er)
{thankyou kawasakiklx1}

Thanks in Advance ND & Mike

That's a wiring harness retainer, and yes, some have it and some don't. I don't know and I doubt anyone knows Ford's logic for determining which trucks got one and which ones didn't.
The basic part number is 14A163. When you go to the parts catalog the header for that part reads: "14A163 Retainer (wire harness)-if not listed below improvise" That part, I believe, will be in the "improvise" group. The closest one I could find was P/N D3TZ-14A163-A, fits: 73-75 F100-350. The description, "located at top cowl, inner panel" leads me to believe this is the one that is inside, under the dash, not the one on the firewall.
It also shows the same P/N is used on 75-up E100-350, that one's description is "located at top of outer dash panel".

10/88 final edition of this parts catalog lists the same things.

back to my never ending search for unobtanium....

you two are truly "gentlemen and scholars" Where would we be with out you?

with your permission I wish to spread vicious rumors about you of being such

Thanks.
When I looked up the part number, I went ahead and did a search, no dealer or obsolete supplier shows having any. No surprise though, that's one of those parts that, if it did need to be replaced, probably never was. It being broken/missing didn't affect how the truck ran.
As for spreading "malicious" gossip, have at it .

Edit: One thing, if you really do want to get one for the engine compartment. In the catalog it says to basically make one if the application isn't listed. I think the one under the dash is very similar. I believe the difference is the one under the dash is longer. I'd get one of those and shorten it.

I may have found your "unobtanium" .
When I looked up the part in the catalog, the illustration I looked at had basic P/N 14A163 and that's the section I went to for the info.
Out of curiosity I started looking through the catalog and found another illustration that showed the same 14A163 or 14A090 .
I looked up that part and here's what it shows:
Shield, wiring
Fits: 73-77 F100-350
Located at cowl top panel
D3TZ-14A099-B

And guess what? My parts search showed Green Sales in Cincinnati, OH has 2 of them (800)543-4959

Looks very good, good idea to get it straightened out too. What other little pieces and parts do you need? Do you have the OEM lug wrench and keep it under the jack clamp?

Eye spy....a little yellow rubber ducky on the dash? What is the story there?
