I've got a 88' f250 460 5 speed. A little background information, power steering has a leak have to top off fluid maybe once a week so it's not to to bad. I was driving to town about 10-15 miles, I parked and went to grab groceries for about 30 minutes power steering was working 100% when I parked. I came back out and my steering was almost impossible strong arming it home was very tricky. It was almost like something was seized up. I was going 40mph all the way home and would have thought going that fast would have made steering a little easier. Also randomly the steering would loosen right up only turning one way, this would alternate sides too. I also noticed a squeak that sounded like it was in the steering colum it would only squeak a few times on the way home. So it has been 3 days that the truck sat I got some PB blaster on the steering shaft u-joint maybe that was the squeak? I took the truck out and steering is the same as I figured. If I sit in neutral as high as I rev the motor I can not turn the wheel. I'm wondering if this is my pump or what the deal is any help is much appreciated.
Going to get new pump on tonight and flush the lines out. Only $43 for re-man pump with lifetime warranty from autozone. We'll see what that does, thanks for the input I'll post what the solution ends up being.
How is the pulley attached to the pump is it pressed on I don't see a bolt?
My4Fordtrucks the leak looks like it is coming from line going into the top of the steering box (what line is this?) , the previous owner replaced two lines they look practically new. I've tried tightening it but it's snugged up good should I put teflon tape on all the lines?

It is pressed on. The only way to get it off is with the special puller made for the job. You can buy or rent the puller. Make sure the instructions are with the puller. You will never figure out how to use it otherwise( at least I wouldn't be able to).
Well turns out my pulley was bad. The inner "hub" if you will basically turned into a bearing, the metal completely separated from the plastic. I'm not sure how the pulley didn't come off but luckily it didnt. Installing new pulley tomorrow will post a reply to confirm it was the pulley. Autozone has the puller you need to remove and install.
Both the pressure and return lines are on the top of the steering gear. They are a compression type seal so putting Teflon tape on it will not work. Hopefully the PO did not cross thread the lines causing the leak. The pressure line runs from the pump to the gear and has threaded ends.
My4Fordtrucks I plan on fixing the leak but this is my daily so timeing is always an issue. I just look at it as my rust preventative dispenser keeping my frame nice and oily.
