My question is I have read the towing guide and states 12,400 for gooseneck. I will be moving from CO to Fl and the weight of the gooseneck will be extremly close to max. Has anyone towed in the 12,000 range with this setup. I know the engines built today are allot better I just dont want to overload my truck. Any advice or recommendations welcomed thanks.

Yes I have, 2014 model similar to your setup. A few things:
1. Be patient.
2. Motor will rev a lot on hills.
3. Very bad MPG.
4. Pulls just fine on flat ground.
5. Tow/Haul mode works good w/engine brake coming down hills.
The truck I used had an aftermarket exhaust on it and pulling that much weight I wish I had ear plugs on during the longer hills. That's about it. The 6.2 is a pretty stout gas motor and should do the job just fine
I drug a 24' enclosed trailer loaded to the gills from Missouri back to Alaska. Based on the fact I was blowing tires on trailer, I was over 12k. 6.2 with 4.10 gears. I was very impressed. Having owned diesels, 6.8, 6.2, I was very pleased. Yes, it likes gas and rpm's!!

4.10's were never an option with the 6.2, only 3.73 and 4.30.
I wouldn't hesitate to pull that weight. With the 3.73's, you might as well lock out 6th gear and save your transmission a bunch of shifting. Just do some routine maintenance before you head out and max out your tire psi. expect 6-9 mpg depending on the terrain your in. You will find it tows much better at 65mph than it does at 70 and 75mph.
Timbrens are another great option that a lot of people on here like. Super easy install.
Thanks for all the replies I feel allot better about this now.
I do regular maintenance oil change every 5,000 miles all Ford parts. I was thinking of getting the transmission flushed about a month before trip. Shouldnt be to bad on hills and terrain as I am going east coast and will probabbly head down to texas and hit I10. Im not a mechanic but I do use my manuals anytime doing work ie haynes. I was quoted about 1,100 for having a B&W 30,000 gooseneck installed but not sure how on point that is. That also looked like a novice job except making sure the hole is cut perfect. Is there anything besides transmission flush oil and breaks that would benefit before heading out. Thanks again for all the help.
I've never installed a gooseneck, but as far as cutting out the hole goes, there is a spot in the bed stamped in. It even has a center mark for you. Just buy a hole saw.
I have a '12, and I pull 11,800 lbs with mine, it's the one in my sig. No problems what so ever, even with the 3.73 gears that it's popular to hate on these forums. You will be fine. I have the B & W turnover ball hitch (plus companion 5th wheel hitch) in mine, but had it (and the air bags) installed. Great hitch, very happy with it. Same with the Firestone bags. I didn't put a compressor on mine, and use a single air fill. It's fine. I do carry a small 12v compressor in my truck tool box, just in case I need to add air while on the road (I haven't needed to).
Manual mode on the transmission is your new best friend. Seriously, you must try this. It has made all the difference for me and towing my 5er. It's like driving a different truck.
Make sure your trailer brakes work, and are properly adjusted, and this trip will be a non-event. This is what these trucks were designed and built to do.
Thanks for the info only reason i doubted some of doing the trip is
1. Max tow on a 1,700 mile trip 3 days driving
2. Allot of people have always told me to stay 1,000 lbs under max at least
( I know this was probably right with older trucks but I do think the 6.2 is a well built for this)
Glad i joined this group good info thanks
( Having the option with companion hitch is what made me want the B&W I do plan on getting a 5ver later down the road)
I stand corrected i lifted my bedliner and there u go already tamped. Thanks again for all the help. Lokngbforward to the upgrqdes and towing this rig.
