Hi all. Searched for this but it can be exhausting. Easier to start a thread! Have a 2012 King Ranch. When I put it into reverse the backup sensor SOUND comes on continously loud and clear! Bad connection? Faulty sensor? Anybody have any thoughts? Thx for your input.
I have an unlimited wash package. At this time of year if it's below zero or near zero and I have the truck washed, sensors get water on or in them and are funky until the ice melts. They fix themselves.
However, it is around the freezing point. We'll see what happens in a couple days here when it warms up. Thats never happened in the past. We'll see if anything changes.
Mine do that when I wash the truck and until it warms up or the truck is parked in a heated garage. If I don't wash the truck in the winter - like thru a car wash - they never malfunction just in the cold. Of course if snow, dirt, mud gets on them I have to clean them... I did have a sensor go bad on my 2011.
Before troubleshooting any further, wait until it warms up a bit.
It's definately warmed up now, but very, very wet! The sensors are responding better. What I mean is as I select reverse the long beep starts then mutes....a bit, then beeps momentarily, as it seems to try and resume a normal operation. Of course beeps increase as I near an object, so it is better. Seems to be weather related. I'll keep monitoring it. Thx guys for your input.
HRTKD - This is one of those issues that sometimes has to be troubleshooted without a code to go by. At least my *LIMITED* experience with those buggers has been that they never throw a code when they go bad or there is a problem. Luckily, in Ford's they usually go off for no reason, rather than not going off when you are close to something. And I have just had ice/frost/dirt/bad connections too... In either case, no codes.
The dealer can "look" at the sensors individually and tell which one is being flaky, which means we probably can do it with Forscan/Torque Pro, etc... Now on my 2015, I can tell by the lights at the bottom going green, yellow, red in sections... So at least you know WHERE to start looking. My 2011 didn't do that. Don't know when that change was implemented either.
I don't know whats going on with these sensors. When it was freezing out and salty thats when they were acting up. Later, it got milder and they were starting to act more 'normal'. Now it's mild and pouring rain and they're acting up again! I think the connections/sensors are becoming fussy as they age.
Yesterday was a calm, dry, but cool day (5C or about 40F) in a long time and the sensors worked as they should! Obviously sensitive to weather as it ages. I will have a closer look at the connectors when the weather warms a little. Thanks for your input guys.
