Exclamation New aluminum paint truck scratches easily

What's with the ford paint on new Supercutys
It chips easy and clear coat scratches easy
Meguairs scrath repair takes the scratches out easily.
There polish takes the swirl out .
But rock chips happen to easy on paint and windshield

Ford has gotten really cheap with their paint and clear coat over the years. Pretty sad you pay 70k plus for a truck and they use cheap *** paint.

Time will tell as I am sure adherence to the aluminum panels does present different issues for primer, paint and clear coat. I would think the panels will dent easier as well, like the other forum posted re the kick panel behind the door. Sponge main reason for me for the 2017 is the aluminum body, I am up north, roads use ton of slat, sand, gravel, and even calcium chloride, depending on conditions. While it makes for better roads it's hell on body work.

My 2004 Thunderbird has several aluminum panels, and my 2009 F150 has an aluminum hood. Time has already told... the aluminum is fine.

I dunno, I'm pretty sure the paint on my aluminum F150 is the same as on a Super Duty, and I've had no issues at all. This thing has gone through a car wash at least 70 times since new, and no issues whatsoever.

Exactly why I bought a 2017, I think the painting tech is mature enough. Many commercial transport trucks are aluminum cabs for a long time. Ford has examples, include ding the 150, so I think I am safe.

To earlier in the thread, I am not worried about the car wash, or even me hand washing, my old truck handled 100s of washes fine. It was the rock chips, the sand and salt in every crevice, the small rocks pinging off of rocker panels. I had a few paint chips on the drivers side which I repairs red, but rust always comes back. I am hoping this truck stands up much better. Last truck did 11 1/4 winters, save for a new set of fender flares and new new mudflats, two front fenders and some body work, looked pretty good when traded in.

I would think that Ford had painting aluminum dialed in by now! I would be extremely disappointed if a 70k truck that is categorized as a super duty work truck would be prone to damage with minimal resistance. Any warranty on body paints?

Pictures or it didn't happen right?

70 TIMES? You must live in Mudville. My 2015 F150 Stupor Crew has been to the car wash exactly twice since I got it 8/1/2015.

It was clay barred, then waxed and is parked inside a garage, then dusted weekly. 'Course it only has 3,650 miles on the clock, but 70 trips thru a car wash is mind boggling.

Aluminum and paint should not be an issue. Audi has used aluminum extensively in their high end cars starting with the A8 more than a decade ago with no unusual problems.

Despite what your guy says, Ford is having a field day with sales...

It is not the aluminum.
It is the water based paint and clear coat.
This is a complaint from owners of all sorts of brands. The low VOC paints are simply not as hard as the paints of decades ago.
This is something we have to live with as it is federal law.

This is the correct answer.
