2018 F150 Magma Red - Paint Chips

This my first new Ford. I have have owned may new cars and never had this many paint chips. It has under 6000 miles and has 5 very small paint chips. Is this due to the aluminum body panels? If so I don't see the paint lasting.
Thoughts?

I am going to be taking to some people about it Dealer told me that ford will repaint truck cause of excessive fish eye and paint applied to thin. Then it was at at dealer For three weeks when I came to pick up they where putting touch up paint in scratches and waxing with a wax made for black paint.Plus my truck ad 64 miles on it and mud all cake in fender wells. I will never go bak there again. My extra accessories they where post install as well where gone. People today I just don't know what they are thinking at all

It's not just Ford. My Ram has very thin paint that will chip if you look at it wrong...

Thanks EPA

The Chevy Vega sold well too. That does not make it a good car.

Water-born paint is just the color coat. The clearcoat is urethane. This has been the standard with OEMs and most body shops for some years now. As far as paint thickness; thicker paint doesn't make it more durable or resistant to chipping or scratching. Paint has to be thick enough to provide color depth and even coverage. The thicker it is, the more prone it is to cracking or checking. The finish is actually quite durable. Anyone who was around back in the old days can relate single-stage enamel and lacquer finishes and how poorly they held up over time and to chipping. Compared to back then, we're well ahead.

I would take that in a heart beat.

Well have had mine at the ranch twice in NM just got back last night 3800 miles on the truck in just over 3 weeks. Have had to replace windshield already but if you take care of the paint it does not scratch worse than any of the last 20 or so trucks I have had. 98% of the people out there do not adhere to a strict paint care regimen, I use Black Diamond by Pinnacle every 6 months and every month apply a carnauba wax Pinnacle Sovereign (do the same to all of my vehicles). Changed products over the year but this will keep the scratches at bay unless you really abuse it.

A final tip and this will sound crazy BUT wax the vehicle the day Before you put it in harms way if possible not the day After you get home...……. Keeps scratches off and cleans up easier.

I bought a silver one...figured that I wouldn't be able to see scratches and chips as easy since it's almost the same color as the aluminum. But my cousin who used to paint cars said silver is one of the hardest colors to match if you need to repaint a section. Only have had the truck for 9 months and I don't yet see any paint problems.
