since i have my motor torn apart, i might install some #19 injectors a kid in my class has (gettin em for free) that NIB. my questions are, 1) do i really need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 2) if so, where can i get one cheap (maybe advanced auto or napa if possible) 3) was it hard to hook up the AFPR? i read the article that eddie did on the swap but it wasnt to clear IMO.
about ur header, what kinda altering did u have to do to the alt. bracket? do u have any pics of it? i really wanna get the hedmen header to round out my hi-po build up (minus the head).
thanx in advance...
PS: cant wait to get my truck on the dyno here at school
If you go to 19lb injectors you really need the adjustable regulator. You will probably have to go to a speed shop to get one. Mine is a Crane unit meant for a 5.0 Mustang and it was about $50. Without it the PCM will have trouble reducing the fuel flow. Some can get it done, some can't.
I'll get some pics of the bracket up this morning.
The pics are in my gallery now. The FPR bracket is cut from 5/16 aluminum plate and basically just clamps the regulator to the fuel rail.
The alternator bracket was cut as shown, but also has 1/2" spacers behind it. I don't remember if I had to use longer bolts or not. The stock belt fits fine, but is a little tighter.
u the man =), thanx for the pics but another question...did u use the guage as they recommended? also, i guess im slow but i still dont understand the bracket, but then again i didnt get to look @ the fuel rail good yet either.
I did not install a permanent gauge. I use my handheld when I need to make an adjustment. This is a pain, but I already had it so this was a freebie vs. paying money for a permanent gauge.
The way the stock FPR is attached to the rail is by 3 allen screws, which can be seen in the pic. The 5.0 AFPR does not use the same bolt pattern as the 4.9 does, so the bracket is made with the stock bolt pattern drilled in it. The bracket hits the mounting ears on the 5.0 regulator and clamps it to the rail. I don't remember what size the hole in the middle is, I want to say 2.125 but I'm not sure.
ok i got a good look and i seen what u meant, doesnt look hard @ at. im definatly gunna do it when i get the fundage. i dont like the idea of mounting the guage tho, looks kinda ugly. thanx again SS
