A/C overheating my engine?

When A/C is on and after running for a while a howling noise is heard from underhood, checked that noise and it turned out to be the fan clutch forcing more air to the engine. In the engine compartment everything is unusually hot, air from the fan does not feel not as normal. Temp gauge shows steady!!!, found some leaking in the passenger side. ....Also started to heard louder clicking when A/C is on.

Everything (now howling sound from the fan, temp. underhood feels not as hot ) comes to normal when A/C is turned off and drive few blocks to cool off the engine!

Have been twice at the dealer with no fixes but their typiccal "it is normal" phrase.

Many tanks for your inputs!

A/C overheating my engine?

Same prob I had a few weeks ago that 'started' my cooling problems....only I didn't know there was a Fan Clutch on the thing. Unknown squeak (thought it was a belt) and various temp readings until the Fan Clutch finally cr*pped out. Probably letting it go so long at least made may problems worse if not just plain caused them.

I thought the idea of a Fan Clutch is a bad one once I had to think about it so I replaced it with a spacer and a Flex Fan.....that flex fan ROX. Even with a heavy duty leak in my radiator I can still drive a good 30 mins at high speeds without it getting dangerous temp wise. Can't wait to see what it does once I've replaced the radiator (today).

But yeah, replace that fan clutch...specially with AC in my opinion. It may not seem as important in the big picture but from my experience it can cause big time problems if it gets bad enough and make other cooling system parts that are working but 'iffy' go out too.

It's not overheating your engine. The fan comes on because the ac radiator gets hot when you run it, and needs the extra airflow. The noise might not be normal, but the fan coming on is.
