Driving in to work this morning noticed the "drive to clean Exhaust" message came on. Then nothing happened. My drive is 60 miles one way. About 20 miles from work the "wrench" icon light comes on, then shortly later the "operating at reduced Power" message and the CEL came on. Pulled 3 codes off of edge tuner:
P1335 ckp circ
P246C
P2463
So from what I gather the P1335 is most likely indicative of a stuck EGR valve (truck is 2008 w/118K miles)
and P246C along with P2463 refer to the DPF plugging. Sounds like I need to replace the EGR valve - which doesn't seem to bad to do - question is can I drive my truck the 60 miles back home to my garage shop? Can I get the EGR unstuck by tapping it or removing it and loosening it up then putting it back on to get home? Any quick responses would be appreciated as I have to drive home in 5 hours.
Got it home OK - fella on Powerstroke.org assured me it would be fine. it was. Your right the tool is pricey 400-700 depending on which one. Removing the entire housing instead - more work but a lot cheaper than the 1 time use tool.
Way easier to say than do. Believe me if I could have I would have.
I had the dpf clog error , reduced power, and wrench mode once. I poured 1/4 bottle of Lucus dpf cleaner in the fuel filter on the engine and there rest in the tank. Drove it thru a complete dpf regen and have not had the error since.
since then I have bee running what ever season opti lube .
