Every time it try's to start it's the same it kicks up for two seconds and then dies I'm using starter fluid to kickstart it but thinking that fuel isn't getting into the engine that's why it's dying soon and I started disconnecting wires and cleaning them and taping them just in case

Dude... slow down.... commas and pauses, please, not many people are going to want to read run-on text like you're writing.

So I found these two cables coming from the EFI. I think this is why it isn't starting. Does anyone know what these two do one is a this red wire and the other is a thicker black wire. Thanks for any help

Those are probably for the second (disconnected) battery.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a 5.0 with dual battery trays. (that's usually a diesel thing)

That thing under the starter relay is the voltage regulator for the alternator.

Have you tried asking the computer what is wrong by pulling the codes?

All you need is a paperclip to use as a jumper for the diagnostic self test socket under the hood.
Then you count the flashes of the check engine light.

There used to be a good article on the Ford Fuel Injection website
But I'm going to suggest you look at a YouTube video.
Search for "pulling ford obd1 codes without a reader'

He doesn't have a CEL, Jim, has to go thru similar but more rudimentary methods.

Here is one write-up on it:

Those cables... I wonder if somebody had a plow or winch on the front in the past....

Oh, that's right.
Trucks this old don't even have a place for a MIL.

But he can still use a $3 Harbor Freight testlight or even a 12V bulb right?

It's too bad the FFI test procedure never made it to the stickies.
Maybe Gary could post it up on his Garagemahal website.

I am kinda wanting to migrate all the information in the subforums and stickies into Gary's site, and just point people there. There is only so much I can do in this forum-type of venue to provide useful information, and people at the hosting company (read: IB) screw with the settings and make much of my stuff unusable anymore (that combined with my picture-hosting company changing business models).

Yup, I've read your exchange with IB_Jose about html here on FTE.

Not sure about your photo hosting site.
The pic's of my engine swap are on Flickr.
When I post them here I usually violate their tos and strip out the metadata and links, just point to the jpg url.

See what you think of this: EEC Code Checking - ???Gary's Garagemahal. It isn't done, but is a start.

And a GREAT start it is.
I had seen that but never read it through (because I have a DSII vehicle)

I guess the only thing to add is that you don't really need an analog meter, just a simple test light so you can count out the DTC pulses.

I haven't done it either, so I need input on what the page should say. I want to make it specific for these trucks, so don't mind deleting things that don't apply.

I just think it should be captioned "analog voltmeter *or test light* method"

(it isn't the '80's, and there isn't a cheap analog Micronta meter at the RadioShack on every corner anymore)
