a freind of mine owns a perfect restored '73 Mustang Mach 1 with an 351 W. On the top of the engine is a huge 4150 double pumper with 600 cfm. Don't wonder, I know that is not realy the right carb for that engine but the guy who sold me the carb in 1988 told me that thing is the best, anyway.....
Now my freind called me that the 'stang is not running very well. I , i'm his mechanic, find out that the throttle body broke in twice, Have you every heard 'bout such problems?
Do you have a Idea where I can buy a new or used throttle body and how much it will cost?
Here in Germany I only can get one from my dealer but I was told that is more expensive as a whole new carb......so I've ordered a new 600 cfm Edelbrook carb ( Sunday is a meeting...). The 4150 looks like new exept the throttle body, the car only run 10000 miles since '88 and I don't want to put it into the trash....
I know metering blocks off a 4160 will fit a 4150, I don't know if the same is true for the throttle assembly. Holley doesn't list a p/n for any of the 4150 tb assemblies, so I can't verify the fit. Does anybody have this info?
A Proform main body can be bought for $100 from Summit. It will update it to the new HP style and should really wake it up. As far as the carb size I have ran a 750 double pumper on a buick v-6 and 850's on Chevy 302's with no problems. They are very easy to tune in. My Chevy 350 has a 1100HP cfm Dominator on it now. I dropped a tenth over my old 950HP
600 cfm is the smallest double pumper available. It is fine for a 351W providing it has a manual tranny. They have no provision for a Ford passing gear kickdown.
I ran 650DP (list#4777) on a 351C for years and it ran great. Yours should be a list #4776 if it is a 600DP.
