2016 F150 XL. How do you remove the headrest on center fold down seat? Book says its cant be removed. They put it in and I sure it can be removed. Its right in the way of the cup holder. 40/20/40 seat
There are two tabs on the sockets which allow the pipes on the headrest to move up and down (when the seat back is in the upright position) Unlike the rest of the headrests, these depressable tabs are on similar sides of the pipes. (both on left or both on right - I forget) Once you find them, press each at the same time and slide out your head rest. I did mine and it can be done.
This was the first "mod" I did to my truck, as soon as it was in my own driveway! The headrest stows nicely in the bin under the rear seat (in a SCREW anyway) so you don't loose track of it. Makes the flip out cup holders fully accessible!
That's the first question I asked after the test-drive. Dealer said, "Nah, they put them in to stay, there's no way to take it out." I made sure I pointed out to him that it was out and stowed under the back seat when I went back for step-bar installation and clean-up.
THANK YOU for that info ! Just went out and removed mine from my '17 F-150 Lariat. That thing was a total waste, specially when the center is folded down. Now to see if there is a way to make the back seat back on the driver's side fold down on the SuperCab !
I just took delivery of a 2018 F150 and have been trying to get that headrest out, with little success.
On mine its really difficult to get your hands under the rest to squeeze those buttons. After looking closely at the buttons, it seems that the ones on that center seat, are different than those on the other seats. Were yours on the earlier models similar ?
First pic is the standard seat, second pic is the center seat.
Well I attempted this removal again and its GONE. I guess you have to press both buttons and then remove the headrest vs just pressing one button on the other ones for adjustment/removal.
Had some help from my Ford Salesman, but it looks like its pretty easy when you have 4 hands doing it.
