Moderator: I think it would be a great idea, and a service to your members, to create a sticky of ZF info.
For those searching for a great source of info regarding the ZF, photos and diagrams, schmatics, etc., take a look at this:

That is the clutch pedal system I will follow. It is a fairly simple way to brace the firewall, with zero chance of flex or crack, ensuring full engagement/disengagement.
Having the pedal assembly out of the truck makes it a breeze. This is, of course, for mounting the clutch master on the drivers side of the firewall. This seems to be, so far, the best system for what I needed.

I think you will have to mount the clutch master on the passenger side of the brake booster. Look at the other pix in this thread. Many of them are doing that because of lack of space.

If anyone would like to change from the plastic Ford bushings to sealed bearings, and never have to bother with it again, I found a source for the Kit:
MustangSteve's Clutch Pedal Shaft Bearing Conversion for 65-73 Mustangs
I'm wondering how long it takes the plastic to wear out. I mean plastic bushings in the pivot of brake and clutch pedals? Ouch.

I've done both the ZF5 and Hydroboost. I read somewhere a long time ago while I was researching my Hydroboost conversion a quote that pushed me over the edge to do it. "If you want a come to Jesus meeting with your steering wheel the mod is for you!" Hydroboost is on my "must do" list now. The ZF5 just makes everything that much sweeter.
Has anyone found a sourcefor the clutch fork dust boot for the ZF5?

I found that with the hydro conversion that it created the need to change to a Saginaw p/steering pump. Without it, there were moments in parking lots, where the steering aid just sort of vanished or got slow. I went with the p/s unit off a 76 ltd with a 460 and hydro. I also used the bracket off an 80's Econoline with my engine. I didn't use the pump from the Econoline b/c I wanted the dual return inlets found on the LTD pump.
I'm also, as I wrote about in another posting, changing from the busings to bearings on the pedal assembly. Of course that meant I had to buy a new welder ... and on it goes. My garage has become a combination of repair shop/parts house for the truck.
Oh, btw, found a clean f250 with a zf5, and pulled the driveshafts and rear end yolk for $50!!! Happy day.

Hydraulic conversion
hey guys, looking for a little help. I recently swapped a zf-5 into my 79 bronco and now am working on switching to a hydraulic clutch set up. I have done something similar to what F250 Restorer has done. I’ve installed new master and slaves but kept the hydraulic line. The pedal is stock ex dot for the mods needed to accept the master. My issue is I have an extremely soft pedal. When the vehicle is running (rear wheels off the ground) the pedal returns extremely slowly. Any thoughts on how to stiffen up the pedal?
Thanks!
Thanks!
