My son has a F150 w the 5.4 engine, basic same design as the 6.8. Anyhow the other day he experienced a loud POP after starting and moving the vehicle. Told me last night he has heard small popping sound intermittently while driving.
On the ranger site there was a similar question on a loud pop and someone indicated it could be excess fuel igniting. My question is since I dont hangout on f150 boards, for this to happen, it would seem that the injectors may be leaking excess fuel. How can the injectors be checked for such a condition. There are no CEL illuminations. Truck has around 160K on it so injectors could be an issue.
I spoke with him last night, told him about plug theory, but that was an issue on the 2 valve was it not? His spark plug problems is in changing them as they are the long reach in an 04. Anyhow he said it still runs good, no misses no CEL, just an occasional pop much like when you pop bubble wrap! He was going to check the engine area today but haven't heard anything from him re the spark plugs.
