I figure if I'm gonna have access to the fuel injectors, maybe I should consider upgrading them. Does anyone know of a good upgrade that's not gonna break the bank?
I would not upgrade the injectors unless you have made some serious engine mods. A stock 4.6 uses the 19lb Bosch injector. Your ECM cannot compensate for the extra fuel if you upgrade, and you will head into a ton of headaches. I recently changed my injectors with OEM replacements, but I have 129K on the ODO, so I figured it was time. The place I bought them from sells a set of 8 for about $180 or so, which is a great deal because they list for $100 apiece at the dealer. Check out www.fiveomotorsport.com, they specialize in mustangs, but they sell upgrades for the 4.6/5.4 motor in Expys. When I ordered mine, I wanted to upgrade to 24lb injectors, since I have made some engine mods already. The guy who worked there told me that unless I had installed a supercharger, or ported the heads, that the 19lb ones were more than enough. The 24lb ones would deliver too much fuel, and the motor, in my current trim, would not be able to handle it. Check out the site, it's pretty cool, and good luck !
One more thing too....you dont have to remove the fuel rails when you replace the spark plugs.
Rtp what brand of injectors did you install? That sounds like a great deal
Are you sure the 5.4 injectors are 19's.. Sounds small I would think 24's or 30's IMHO... Just wondering I am new to the EXPY world as I have only dealt with my stang in the past..
Dave, I bought them there as well, and they are Bosch Injectors, Brand new. That is an awesome price considering the dealer wants upward of $80.00 A PIECE.
I did it!! The spark plug change went well. It took me almost 3hrs and that's because I was chased by a big-fat-black bee!
Racerguy, I must respectfully disagree with you regarding the fuel rails. The job would have been more difficult without unbolting them and setting them aside. The #4 and #8 plugs would have virtually impossible to remove...
Good to hear that you did it
Everyone does things differently. I think that how a person tackles it might have to do with what they have for tools too.
I've never removed fuel rails to replace plugs but maybe that's just me

What kind of plug did you go with? Feel any difference?
