Be VERY careful doing that. The gasket may be completely dried out and shrunk. I paid a high price because I left my original gas cap on my truck.
Here's my story. My truck had the original cap on it. I noticed the gasket was very dry and probably shrunken some. Hot day. I filled the tank up. Gas sloshed up and leaked out of the cap. I parked the truck in the hot sun and cut my hay. I had no clue gas had leaked out on the other side of my truck. I just jumped on my tractor and took off. Got back to my barn that evening and the paint was completely gone all the way down to the bottom of the cab.
I'd recommend you get a modern reproduction cap (they look identical) with a proper rubber gasket for driving and everyday use. Then if you go to a high-end car show with judging, swap it out or whatever. I bought a NOS fuel pump and was very happy. It was dried out. Didn't work at all.
My new reproduction leaks also. A little gas will not hurt it. I don't think my reproduction was vented, it did not have a hole that I could see. Going to try this cap on a trip and see if I can notice a difference.
I would not use that cap. The vented caps are designed like a one way valve and they only vent under low pressure. The open hole means that you are always venting vapor. Lots of fumes particularly with modern gas with 10% alcohol content. If you use it just hope nobody smokes around your truck or that you have a gas water heater in your garage.
If you fill up early in the morning don't drive very far and park it in the hot sun the gas will expand and spill out. I had the exact same thing happen on the beast as Doc had on the truck except I wasn't cutting hay!
