Question brake light issue

Hello, I have a 1993 F-150 5.0 XLT. My tail lights wouldn't come on, so I changed the switch same issue, did some looking at a diagram notice it was to have a bushing in the arm that attaches to brake pedal. Got it put it in and new spacers to, This is where it gets weird. with the new switch brakes now won't go off, put the old switch back in to see what it would do with the bushing in it. Back to the issue of having to stand hard on the pedal to get lights to light up. With out the bushing both switches won't light the brake pedal unless you push down had. I would have to lock up the brakes for them to light up.... Anyone have Ideas?
Thanks Keith

I would go to a junk yard and look at as many trucks as you can, make sure you have things put together correctly. That seems really strange. I would look and take pictures of the entire pedal assembly as well as how that switch goes in on other trucks like yours.
