As I'm sure many of you know our local boys, East Boynton All-Stars, won the US championship. Now they just announced on the local news tonight that as a reward, some rich insurance dude wants to take the team to this years world series, all inclusive of air fare, hotel & spending cash for the little guys.
I truely enjoyed watching the sportsmanship and the overall love of the game these kids showed. Now this guy comes in to introduce them to the "Reward" side. Kinda like preparing them for the corporate/money side we see in the Major Leagues. Why can't the money guys just let them be kids and enjoy the game for what it's supposed to be.
When I first read this, i felt happy for the kids, they earned it. But you do have a valid point. Now the kids will grow up to be professional sports players.. or worse yet.... POLTICIANS!!
Something like this would go far in teaching the required skills needed for survivial in todays America, i.e.;
Gimme, Gimmie
You Owe Me
It's not MY fault
What can I get out of this.
I watched the Little League World Series over the weekend and was impressed with the Boynton kids, especially their show of sportsmanship. Big smiles and high-fives to the Japanese players as they rounded the bases - the anthesis of professional baseball.
I think as adults we see things completely differently than kids do. I suspect the kids are oblivious to any monetary/corporate facets of this offer. Maybe the offer was legit - totally altruistic in nature.
Be proud of those kids, they are a great bunch. Despite getting 'whupped good' it was a wonderful sight seeing both teams running around the field at the conclusion of the game - laughing and carrying on together - just being kids.
I think that professional teams need to take their players to the Little League World Series. Maybe they'll remember all that is lost in "America's National Pastime"(what ever that's supposed to mean anymore). Play for the love man. I'm so sick of hearing players holding out during training camp in pro sports. What's so hard with waking up and going to practice and play your favorite sport and get paid.
