Does pm-22 go bad?

Hi

Will a gallon of fords pm-22 will go bad if the can has been open?

I was thinking of getting a gal can of the stuff but I'm worried it might go bad before I finish it off.

Thanks

First, a lot depends on the storage environment. Hot, cold? Inside the garage which is either heated or has AC? Or in the barn which isn't and you live in an area that see 100F in the summer? In the toolbox in the truck bed?

How long will it take you to finish it off? I've kept additives in my garage up in AK (which is heated) for 6 months and haven't noticed any issues. I know it still worked as I reached cloud point and some extra winter additives got me going again. But then again, I haven't had regular gas go bad nearly as quick up here as I did when I lived in Florida and kept it in the shed out in the back yard in the heat.

If you are looking for an official position of shelf life, I can't find one. Stanadyne says their unopened bottles are good for 24 months in a "suitable environment", but doesn't say what that is and doesn't mention anything about shelf life after opening.

I buy the bigger bottles of additives when I do my long summer drives, because I know I will use it up quick and when I am home I buy the smaller bottles.

Personally, I would not buy the gallon of PM-22. Even with my 65 gallon tank, I only use 1/2 bottle of the PM-22A 20oz bottle per fill up.

You can buy the 20oz bottle on eBay with free shipping to you (unless outside the lower 48 states) for $8.00 each. This is similar price I have paid at a dealer after they added sales tax.

PM22A - ADDITIVE - CETANE BOOSTER - Ford | eBay

Does it go bad? Over a short period of time say a year or so in a sealed or tightly closed container, probably not. I am not sure what the affinity for water PM-22 has, but doubt if much affinity. My concern would be spilling it or collecting bottles to measure up amounts for each fuel stop.

I have been buying it by the Gallon Jug since 06/10 when I bought my 2011 6.7
I fill my truck when it gets down to 1/2 full, and add some PM22 every other fill. Never had a Problem with either the 2011, or the 2016.

Nipperdog - How long does a gallon last you?

It's like $12 at the dealer here for PM22 (no sales tax) and it still isn't going to break the bank. I can't do the ebay thing (Not in the L48) Sometimes I can get a deal from Amazon as I have prime, as there are items that we can't get locally so we make up the prime membership pretty quickly.

I buy Stanadyne 1/2 gallon's by the case(6), and use it every tank. That case lasts me about a year. I've never been concerned with the age of the stuff.

This is a great question, I was wondering the same thing. I just ordered a gallon from amazon.. I'm not really sure what there is in it, that would go bad...
