Purchased a correct style radio for the stock truck about 2 yrs. ago off upay . Installed it & it would only pickup one station . That was not satisfactory .Sent a message to the seller telling him of the problem .Made no progress on that request . He would not guarantee or warranty his work . So was out some $$.
Contacted D & M Antique Radio repair in S. Carolina . Sent a radio for total refurbishment .Radio was back in a 2 weeks . Installed it sat. So now have a problem w/ this radio . It picks up way too many spanish stations . Called D & M and advised them of this problem . At first they were serious and patched me right thru the repair man that did the work . Then I let him onto the joke .
AM extremely satisfied w/ the work they did. Radio picks up a ton of AM stations .
You can have an fm board added to your radio and still keep it 6 volt positive and no one would know. The board also has an audio in to play music from your phone.
I I am really enjoying mine for sure. Sound quality is not like a modern car but who cares.

JB, are you talking about an Aurora Design boards? Which one did you have installed? Who did it? Pics please!
Yes the Aurora board, 6 volt positive ground. South Texas Antique Radio did it. Really nice guy to deal with. Couldn't be happier, it really makes driving the truck awesome. It's no Harmon Kardon system, but it shouldn't be anyway!
do you remember which board you have installed? I want to do the FMR-2 and the BTU-2 in my '49 Mercury Radio since it can't be repaired, at least not for a decent price.
Moe, his website says fmc-1, but I am really not sure, I didnt really ask. I just said to get fm on it and keep it stock 6v and he said no prob send my way.
It cost about $350 with shipping both ways. And my am radio was working fine when I sent it. He did some other things to it, general restore, but no heavy repairs, thank goodness!
it rained tonight while I was driving the truck so I worried about it (cowl vent leaks) but no leaks, no worries.
I'll try to find his website. you said it was South Texas Antique Radio. Thanks for the info... How long ago did you have it done? Great news about the cowl vent not leaking!

So..if I send my existing '48 F1 radio..I can get refurbished w/fm..how about sirius/Xm satellite radio??..I'm a big fan..How much $$ to refurbish?
What about those ads I see for new radio around $500+ ??
I want my radio to look original..What's that going to cost me?

I haven't found anyone of the companies that are for the 48-50 style and the ones that I talked to had no plans of working on it this year as they are working on '60 models currently.
