Just thought I would share this. I was driving home and had a deer run right into my box side. Thankfully there was much less damage than I expected. Just some scratches, a ripped off chrome wheel arch, and a tweaked rear bumper. Lucky it didn't run out a second earlier.
This isn't the first case of deer running into side of truck I've heard of. One occasion caused substantial damage. White tails are nuts. Mulies mostly run away. Glad you're okay and the truck is basically fine.
Despite the minimal damage, I decided to call insurance to see if I get a bit of money from having comprehensive coverage. Anyone think this amount of damage would be substantially over 250?
As I understand it, insurance is supposed to repair your vehicle back to like new condition. You would have to fight for that, I'm sure. But what that could mean is a full paint job and all new everything on the outside. Not likely a few passes of new paint will match up to any other part of the body.
I'm sure you don't want to whack your own insurance with that. But you might...

Insurance is not there to bring the vehicle back to like new condition. They are there to bring it back to pre-loss condition. That rust was there before so don't expect any rust repair or paint work on that section.

I'm not expecting a restoration job. I'm just going to see if I can get some money out of it. Someone from insurance will be calling me tomorrow.
I was expecting to see more damage when I went out into the day light, but the only thing I see is a 2 inch scratch, the chrome trim, and a bent bumper.
We were told by our insurance company that accidents of this type are no fault claims and our premiums would not go up. About 6 months later, my wife hit a coyote, $1,000 damage. Insurance is still the same.

Same thing the claims representative said when I asked. I will be talking to my insurance agent directly before the claim is finalized. The truck goes to a body shop tomorrow or Wednesday for an estimate.
