Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Made it home from Diamond Lake, Crater Lake and the High Cascades around noon. They lived up to September reputation with fires, lightening, thunder, deluge rain storms and snow.
We actually took off from Diamond Lake last night. Had dinner at the Chalet Restaurant and Bar in Chemult, stopped for a 1 hour nap at the Rest Stop in Oakridge and then got into the Oak Grove Rest Stop around 2330 where we spent the rest of the night nicely sandwiched between a couple of 18 wheelers. Stopped for breakfast at the Pioneer Truck stop then cut over through Corvallis to come on home via 99 and 22, bypassing Salem.
Mt. Thielson with no snow the day we arrived.
Mt. Thielson the 22nd, the day before departure. Notice the face below the wizards hat?
Mt. Bailey at the time of our arrival 09-06.
Mt. Bailey on the 22nd, about 24 hours before departure.
Going to the fish market for dinner - Diamond Lake, High Cascades style!
Thanks John. It was a really vividly red sunset that I think was greatly enhanced by the forest fires with the clouds being in perfect position. We had several very red sunsets and sunrises while we were up there. Most of them had a lot of smoke and haze that interfered with picture clarity. This was a really clear evening in the valley on our side of the mountain and ridge line.
For many years when I was still in law enforcement, this was our "second" summer home. Also worked special assignments in this area.
Myself and a very close friend (more like a brother really - murdered in our elk camp in 2003 about 12 miles from the lake) would take our wives and kids up and set them up in a camp site, leave them the boat for transportation and then "commute" on our weekends.
In fact, his widow brought his grandkids up this trip so I could take them out fishing on the boat. We sent about 50 lbs. of fish home with her to help get them through the winter.

They catch who murdered you friend Jim..? That would be hard to take. Kind of late to say am sorry but I am just the same..
Yes, they got him. After umpteen appeals, he got out a couple of years ago. Rumor has it that he lays pretty low - scared of his own shadow and a couple of people that know how to shoot much better than he ever could.......
Morning Pat, and all to follow. Mine was good, hit the microbrew fest in the town up the road (Lebanon). Saw friends from my own town that I haven't seen since last years micorbrew fest. Life just gets too busy sometimes.
