K I have a 96 F-150 with the 5.8..I have 2 cats and their is a sensor befor and after the cat and I want to have both the cats cut off and put one highflow cat on..?Then from their it will run into a flowmaster 40series single inlet/dual outlet muffler.Does this sound like a good exhaust? can I replace both cats with one highflow without the sensor going crazy.?we dont have emission test in our state..any other suggestions?
You might want to look into a high flow Y pipe from Bassani. http://proficientperformance.com/Mer...&Store_Code=PP
I have one on my 96 Bronco (even though it only says to 1995 in that link). I have Bassanis complete street thunder setup. It is all stainless steel. The primary tubes of the Y are 2.5" and they come to a singe 3" pipe with a true high flow 3" in/out high flow catalytic convertor. It retains all emissions fittings too. You also dont need a gasket thanks to their super slick designs, and it will bolt up to a stock set of manifolds, or headers. You can get that extra power you are looking for, keep your computer from going haywire, and keep the EPA sniffers happy. Just and idea.
the bassani looks like a good set up but for $341.25 I think ill maybe just put a highflow on..I hope this wont be to loud cause I just ordered the muffler..
ford5.8--I am considering basically the same setup, but I was going to leave the muffler off and just have straight pipes out, because I want it to be loud. If it ends up being to loud I will attach a glasspack. A muffler shop told me on the phone that a high flow would not give me louder exhaust or better performance, but I don't think that he knows what he is talking about. I will try it in a couple of weeks and let you know how it goes. If you do it first let me know.
That guy has NO idea what he is talking about. You will get a louder exhaust with a high flow cat, as well as performance. The cat basically acts like a second (or first) muffler!
Yeah, that is what I figured. Can I just get rid of the second cat and put the high flow on right after the first so I wont have to get a Y pipe or would that just defeat the purpose of getting the high flow?
Personally, I think it defeats the purpose...but its still a little bit better flow. I am not sure what the setup of an 86 looks like, but I know on the 92-96s, there appears to be two cats when in fact it is actually a two stage, single cat. Whenever anyone on this site asks about a high flow cat, I always like to point them to a Bassani Y pipe listed above. Its like buying a horse carriage and telling yourself 'I'll buy the horse in a few months". You really need a Y pipe that has optimized diameters to truly get the advantage of the high flow catalytic converter. Just my opinion though...
it already kinda has a y pipe, its 2 then it goes into 1 then into the cats,I dont see why the y pipe setup above has much of a advantage over whats on their now?
Now that I look at it it looks like th y pipe has better flow instaed of meeting like mine do,the main reason I want a highflow is for better sound/gas milage in case mine are starting to get plugged..but every one keeps saying to take the 2nd one off and put a highflow in its place..I dont see why I cant take both cats off and put one highflow, we dont have emmisions test here if that has anything to do with it..
I think your exhaust is the same setup as mine was before I did my duals. You could do what I did, and take the stock y pipe and put duals from it. I mean to explain it better you'd have to check my gallery, I have a whole bunch of pics. The only way to get maximum hp and tq is to run no cats. At least that's what everyone is saying on here, so I did it, and it's really awesome.
