Manual shift fork and rail replacement question

I finally found another top shift cover. The new cover 1-2 fork was worn like my old one and I had already ordered one so I installed it in the one I just got. When I removed the roll pin from the fork and pushed the shaft out to remove the fork, the spring, ball and pin popped out together I think. I know the spring goes in the hole first and my question is what is next for the proper order, the ball or pin? I honestly don't see how all three of these will ever go in and have enough room for the shaft to slide through. If the pin doesn't go into the shaft with the ball, any idea where it goes? Any help is really appreciated. Sandy

So the spring and ball go into the hole. I would agree.

The longer detent pin would likely go between two of the shafts. Look carefully and see which side still has a pin in it.
