Question Blower Motor Quit

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer. One day, the AC Blower quit working. It had been working perfectly before. Sounded like a fuse to me. I check the fuses on the driver side kick panel, the fuses in the engine compartment and even the Blower Motor Relay. They are all fine. I want to check the resistor, but know (I think) that it would only work on high if that were the problem. Any suggestions?

Turn it on and with a test light see if there is power going to it. Then see if there is power coming out of it. If the light glows both sides then the problem is likely ground circuit. If it lights one side only and doesnt run, there is likely an open in the motor. You can connect a separate ground wire to the ground side to see if the ground circuit is the problem. If it is you probably have a bad resistor or switch.

Its a good idea to also unplug the motor and see if one or both pins have burned appearance, especially at the plastic surrounding the pins.

OK, I tested the input and got power. So, I removed the fan and plugged it directly to the battery. It came to life. So, I plugged it in again and it ran only on "High". Good - my assumption was the resistor. I reinstalled the fan and plugged everything in and it now works on all speeds. Hmmm... Maybe it just needed a kick in the right place.

Thanks for the advice. I think it worked!

There is a weak link there that will eventually manifest itself. Now you know why some techs get in a come back situation. The problem isnt always easy to pinpoint.
