Wheel size (need a spare...)

Hey guys;

Quick question; I need to get a spare rim/tire for my 77 F250, and was hoping to get some education on what would fit, beyond the obvious stock 70's era rim. There are no locally available contemporaneous rims available that I'm aware of, but I suspect (hope?!) there are newer/older rims that are more plentiful that I could use as a spare.

My intention is to truly just have a spare rim/tire that will get me home in the event of a flat. I have stock rims and skinny tires, and the truck is 2WD; not lifted or lowered.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Almost anything that is a 8 on 6 1/2 pattern. A old 16.5 stock steely (hard to find a lone 16.5 tire). Look for a 1961 -1998 Ford 8 lug, 8 on 6 1/2 pattern rim, even a 16". Even a rim off a Econoline VAN was 8 on 6 1/2 in to the 2000's. Ford went metric in 1999 to a 8 on 170MM on the Super Duty.

Dodge 1961-2009 8 on 6 1/2, chebby 1965-2009 8 on 6 1/2

About any junk yard/pick and pull, ck your local tire shops for a cheap stock steely and tire. Hit up your in state/local FTE chapter. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum183/

If you was not all the way over in SC I would give you one.. I have a handful of roller stock steelies.

Ford and Dodge might have a larger center hole than a Chevy. Small hole Chevy won't work for you-don't find out when you need the spare!

The PO's truck is 2wd, so I think the small hole chebby will fit??? 4wd it matters. ??? Let me put lots of ???????????? because I am not 100 % positive. Disclaimer.

A jack it up and test fit is mandatory, I though that went without saying. lol Sorry I did not mean to have a "that guy " moment.

My F350s have Dana 70s in them, and I'm pretty sure the Dana 70 was also used in some Dodge situations. Not knowing what axle the OP has in his truck, I'd hate to see him get a "small hub" spare and not be able to use it in time of need

PO's truck is a 77 F250 I bet Dana 60. $$ $$ I fall back on the test fit before purchase method. Especially when buying rims.

Find a donor econoline... plenty of them in the yards I go to.

Btw, visit roadkill customs' website. They have aon online e database that cross references wheel patterns AND hub bore diameters.

A "true" Chevy wheel would not fit on my '83 F250, I do know that one, I checked. Center hole wouldn't fit over the hub, but it also had about 10 layers of paint and I didn't try very hard. That one had a Dana 70, a Dana 60 may be smaller diameter, I don't know, but rims off my '78 fit the '83, take it for what it's worth. Most everything else will fit fine, Ford, Dodge, 99% of the aftermarket (every single one I've ever seen, anyhow), and 8-lug trailer wheels. Trailer HUBS will take Chevy wheels, however - they have a smaller hub-centering ring, and there's always a gap when you install them. Chevy wheels get made into stands or hose hangers around my place - too great of a chance of one ending up in a pickup in the boonies thinking you have a spare and you don't.......
