2008 F350 EGR/CAT/DPF delete?
It's time and I need a little advice please.
This truck has 35K miles. I've noticed a lack of performance, fuel economy decrease, diluted oil etc..
I need to rid myself of the "self destruct" mode.
My largest of question is; do I or should I remove the EGR or block only?
Am I safe with a Gearbox DPF-R programmer?

I plan to delete the CAT and DPF and replace the pipe. That's the easy part.
It's the EGR I'm confused on which way to go.
Remove it complete? which is a "pita"
Is just blocking it ok?
Is the Gearbox DPF-R programmer ok? They are $400 vs a full tuner at $1200+

The advantage of blocking is that it is a lot less time/labor and money. The EGR cooler can still leak later if it is there. That's the disadvantage of just blocking. I'm sure there are threads that have more details.
As far as tuners go, you can get them for quite a lot less than 1200+ at No Limit Diesel.

That's what block off plates do from what I understand. You loosen and insert the plates. However, if the EGR valve is not stuck open, you don't have to block the EGR if you turn it off in the tunes.
The theory for not using blockoff plates is that it can increase backpressure which can cause degas puking. I don't have blockoff plates or full EGR delete, ymmv. Here is one thread on the subject.

Isn't the plates for the gases? Not coolant? I need to research more.
I'm not going to run high HP to need a waste gate.
