So when my little buddy comes with us, we fold up the center arm rest and then there are no cup holders, any ideas as my options. He loves to come with, and I love him with us, but also like a soda once in a while.

I had that same issue on my 2016 XL. The issue is with the floor shifter, Ford didn't put the fold out cup holders in, you had to option the ESOF to get that feature. That was always annoying IMO. Ford addressed it nicely on the 2017. See pic. Maybe you could retro it or make something similar work.
I just bought on of those cheap cup holders from Wal Mart that fits on the transmission hump. I holds two cups, a few CDs and has coin trays on each side. There are holes so you can run a screw into the transmission hump but I didn't want to do that so I just use some gorilla tape to hold it in place.
I replaced the lower part of the dash with the fold-down cupholders that you can find in the trucks that have the electronic shift on the fly. There is plenty of room for the manual shifter and you get 2 cupholders with the factory look.

That's sweet. It always looked like there would be enough room. So ridiculous that Ford left them off on the manual t-case. Do you have a pic of it folded down showing the shifter too? Nice work.
djm1204, I have your problem times 2. German Shepherd, and Labrador. Both weighing a bit over 100lbs. The truck I just bought has holders that slide out of the dash so that helps. Like my old truck I have room behind the main seat so I put together a simple platform that lets me fold up the seat back there and place a simple base on the floor, then one sheet of carpeted 1/2" plywood and two pins. The boys can sit or lay in comfort, and put their heads over the back of our seat to get some attention. It leaves the main area safely open and meets their needs for traveling with us at the same time. Just a thought. Like you I want them with us, and they want to be with us too. Good luck and best wishes.

only issue for me is I have a standard cab, no room behind the seat for anything.
Great pics Mike, thanks. I have to wonder why the heck did Ford even bother not putting that lower holder in on the XL manual t-case trucks. There is tons of room! Now that I have a 2017 this doesn't affect me, but I'm sure your pics will help others out. I'm glad I know this is do-able.
You are welcome, the only thing is you can't grab the shiftier from the top, maybe others can but my hands don't fit, but I have never had an issue getting it in and out of 4WD and would rather have the cup holders.
