AM/FM/CD-6 problems with buttons...
I have a AM/FM/CD-6 in a 2002 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer. The car has been sitting for about 2 months in my garage with the battery disconnected. After starting the up the car again. Now the buttons on the radio do not work. The ON/Vol works and the Basss/Treble and the Bal/Fade works all other buttons do not work. I can't change between AM/FM1, FM2, CD or tune in or seek a station. The button to load a CD dosen't work nor does the preset buttons and menu. All buttons seem "dead". I can use the button on the steering wheel to change between AM FM1 and FM2 only.
Has anyone had this same problem?? Does anyone how to reset this or make the buttons work again. Anything to try?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
I'd check with someone at a local deal see if ford put an antithef device on it (see if it is cover by your warranty to fix it) or just buy an aftermarket radio buying automakers radios are expense (about 500+ dollars) other wise I have no clue just some ideas. its hard to say unless you look at hpw it was wirered.
Was the battery disconnected because you where installing things? If so did a fuse blow or did a wire come lose? Those stock radios are a pain with 2 or 3 fuses.
Thanks for the inputs. The battery was disconnected while I was doing some body work. The radio worked befor I started doing the body work. I have checked the fuse for the radio and all fuses at the under dash fuse block. I have also noticed that the clock stays on all the time even with the key out and all doors shut it *never* goes out. The car has a rebuilt title so there is no warranty on the car. Can think of anything else to try?
The vehicle was bought with a salvaged title. It was a light roll over. Two doors, a fender, rear hatch, front and rear bumper and a lot of work later. The salvaged title is being converting to a rebuilt title. Ford does not warranty any salvaged or rebuilts, etc.
The frame was not damaged in the roll. The radio was working before I started repairing the car. Just can't figure out why the buttons stop working.
You might try pulling out the radio and unplugging the connectors and reseating them. Sometimes the micro computer will lock up and needs to be reset. Otherwise you may have pinched a wire somewhere or the shock of the body work may have vibrated the radio too harshly and caused some internal damage.
