I'm sorry you guys are right about the fuel pump. The different setups are getting a little confusing.
Any way. If the wiring is in place i add a new valve on the frame. Hook up a new tank. And make sure all wiring is intact.
now i assume the sending units connect to the valve and the valve sends the signal to the cluster. So obviously the wiring will be tampered or.
or not. The gas gauge doesn't work anyway. But I'll figure that out when i get that far. I'll break out the wiring diagrams after everything is back in working order.
There are only two things in common between the sending units and the solenoid/valve. They are both controlled by the switch on the dash, albeit by separate sides of the switch so they only share the switch mechanically. And they both use the same ground. All of that is shown here: Fuel Tank Selector & Gauges - ???Gary's Garagemahal

The 460 trucks did work that way, the valve switched the sending units electrically and switched the plumbing also. But you have the simpler setup, your sending units are electrically switched by the dash switch, your 3 port valve will only get a signal from the dash switch and switch the plumbing.
Thank you all for your patience and help. The wiring diagram really helped. I think i finally understand how this system works. The different setups for different years definitely confused me so thanks for clearing this all up for me. I'm confident I'll be able to get my dual tanks working again.
thanks again.
Welcome. The guys on here are incredible and have certainly helped me. So, keep coming back and I'm sure they'll be able to help you get things sorted.
