Under normal conditions you will see no messages regarding regens but they will happen as the truck requires. In 3500 miles now I have never seen a message but have smelled the regens happening many times.
If if you are driving such short or easy trips that the truck cannot perform enough automatic regens as it needs, you will see the "drive to clean" message. You really don't want to see this message.
That said, although it initially bothered me not to see regen messages, it has not been an issue at all.
I got the manual regen feature. Does anyone know how this really works? If I know I will be driving a lot of slow miles on dirt roads, let's say on a week long hunting trip, do i manual regen before I actually hit dirt to avoid the "drive to clean" message?

Thanks for the info.
Most my miles are longer runs and I have experienced regens already. So if I am reading what your saying right, it will still say "drive to clean" if it gets to that point (which you don't want to get too). But, the 2017 will not let you know, by display, when a regen is happening. Good to know.

i was reading the manual on the "manual regen". Sounds scary to me. It says the truck in park will idle at 2500-3000 rpm for about 20 minutes.....I didn't like anything about that.
Had my truck for 1000 miles now, and never saw a sign. But I do see my def level at 3/4 now

What model is your truck and do you remember which select trucks get the ability to do a manual re-gen?
The Edge Insight CTS lets you do a manual regen on any SD. I had one on my 15 and have a new one on my 17. Open the hood and let her go. It sounds like a jet engine as it rev's the engine for 30 minutes or so. It uses about .4 gals of fuel to do this.
The OP can always do the manual regen before you start. Otherwise if you do too many short trips without time for one to complete your only choice then will be to pull over and do a manual or keep driving

I ordered an XLT value package then added almost every option the XLT package would allow. More bang for the buck without the visual bling the upper packages offer.
