I'm going to be replacing my lower radiator hose so figured might as well switch over to the extended life stuff going to probably go with the Delo ELC I found it online for $25 a gal concentrate with free shipping is that a decent price or should I keep looking elsewhere. Supposedly it's good for 750k.
I used Rotella ELC and as far as I know it meets the same specs. Not sure about the far north west but we can get it locally for $15 a gallon at Tractor supply. Not sure about the price out there but a quick net search shows you have Tractor supply stores in Or.
Also try looking for a big rig parts store near you. Call and see if they have it. I went to a Kenworth place and got it for $13 a gallon when I did the swap.

That's a decent price. There's only one Chevron fluids dealer in my area and I get it for about $20/gallon (including tax).
It is good for 750K. You can get an additive to push that to 1 million miles.
If you are looking for the extended life/mileage feature (50 - 75K) be sure that you get the EC-1 rated coolant. There is an ELC rating as well as an ELC EC-1. Usually listed as a CAT rating but is available from several manufacturers. Two very different anamals - ask me how I know - still need to do the whole flush routine all over again. Also for $15. a gallon be sure that it is concentrate - not 50% mix, otherwise you will not get the correct ratio.
Look up Gooches flush procedure.
Shell Rotella® ELC meets all the requirements of CAT EC-1, TMC RP 329 and RP 338.
and this Shell Rotella ELC Extended Life Coolant/Anti-Freeze meets or exceeds:
• ASTM D 3306 for automotive service
• ASTM D 4985 for heavy duty diesel service
• ASTM D 6210
• TMC RP 329
• TMC RP 338
Found this for Delo Delo ELC Antifreeze/Coolant is approved for:
• Deutz DQC CB-14
Delo ELC Antifreeze/Coolant meets the specificationsof:
• ASTM D6210
• ASTM D3306
• Caterpillar EC-1
• Detroit Series 60 and DD15 engines per SVC BRO0002
• Navistar B1 Type 3
• TMC RP 329, 302A, 351 (color)
And both meet all EC-1 requirements. Not sure why the price difference. The ad I linked above shows the product and clearly states "Concentrate" on the bottle.
Shell Rotella from TSC gets my vote too. Luckily we have a TSC here in town that always has it in stock. For the mid-west folks, I think Farm and Fleet is pretty much the same thing as TSC.
Delo ELC has molybdenum to help resist corrosion. I believe it is more comparable to Rotella Ultra ELC than to Rotella Elc. It's also rated for 750,000 miles/8 years which can be doubled with a booster added at 500,000.
Rotella ELC has a lifespan of 600,000 miles if an additive is used at 300,000 miles.
I'll be dead before then. Delo ELC appears to be slightly less corrosive, if the hype is correct. Seeing as I'm only doing this once, I decided to spend the extra $40.
Well the closest tractor supply store is about 150 miles away and it says they don't ship the Rotella elc. But we do have a few CAT dealers around here and we have an International Dealer and shop that I totally forgot about. So I will check with them and see if it's any cheaper. So what are all the specs we have to have for coolant for our trucks. I have just been running the green stuff and have beeno having a shop do it because it was only $80 for fill and flush just been having it switched out about every 3 years. Also put RMI-25 Inot it for the addative.
So you guys sayin I need to go away from the Prestone or other 50/50 regular stuff due to corrosion issues? Mine is new a thousand or 2 ago.
My rig has 164K on it. Has had new juice twice in last 5K or so due to radiator change out due to mishap on new fan install and other stuff.
This will be my last rig. I'm 70.
Please advise if I'm wrong on wanting/expecting 750K out of anti freeze at this point in time.
Use the regular ol green coolant and a filter set up from Riff Raff. There are many many 7.3's with 500K+ miles on nothing but green coolant.
Just like all the CAT stuff at work over 50 pieces of equipment, we don't use ELC even though CAT says you have too we use a red more "environmentally friendly" coolant since we are a mine on forest service land. It does not make a difference. Chances are you will have some kind of leak and end up changing out the coolant anyways long before the "extended" benefits kick in.
My two cents if ELC makes you feel better by all means go for it.
