I considered installing the prep kit myself on my 2014 F350 and I found this excellent "How To" video on Youtube.
In the end, I had my local truck up fitter install it for me. They had also done my Line-X bed liner and other add-ons and they had plenty of experience with this install as well. It took them a couple of hours and cost a little over $300 in labor. That includes the installation of the 7-pin, in-bed electrical connection.
From the video, it looks pretty straightforward and I'm confident I could have done it myself. In the end I did not because my truck won't fit in my garage and so I would have been working outside during some inclement weather.
I just had mine factory installed, along with the tow bundle. I ordered the camera for my 5th wheel, that I will install next week when I pick up or 5th wheel
I did mine on my 2014. A couple of youtube videos for help and you can do it yourself. At least for the frame brackets. I didn't move my wiring to the bed as that was something that I did not think it was worth it.
Are you ok with tight spaces, have large sockets and good weather? That's all you need.
