Electric wiper conversion

I see several options for electric wiper conversion, i.e. cable, 'economy' linkage (Mid Fifty) and 'higher priced' linkage (Raingear). Anybody have good/bad experiences with any of these?

Electric wiper conversion

I have a 50 f-1 and many years ago I installed an electric wiper assembly, the kind that is in the shape of a triangle with the motor at the bottom. I see that Dennis Carpenter still offers this unit. Unless the unit has been since updated I found that when the blades were set at the park position the sweep of the arms would only make a partial sweep. I always had to readjust them when it rained and then reset them back to park position later. It also took up a lot of space under the dash.
I see now that you can get an electric motor unit to use with the original arms and transmissions. But the ones I had were wore out and new replacements were not and I do not if they are available even today
In 2011 the Raingear company came out with a motor and wiper assembly that would work with the original cowl vent still in place. The motor is tucked up over the hand brake. With the exception of the handbrake upper mounting pad having a slight interference with the sweep of the unit (which I put in a small dimple for more clearance) and the rest of it went in easy. With any install you should check for any clearance problems. The arms gives you a full sweep and when you shut them off they park correctly. They like most things today not cheap but they work great from the get go. They come with a 2 speed switch which I used or you can get a delayed switch for extra money.
I would highly recommend them to anyone. I installed my unit in 2011 and never had any problems. I have since install an AC unit under the dash with no interference with the wiper assembly.

Thanks for that Mike. Raingear is looking to be my best choice.

Glad that I could help, Mike. If you have any questions about the install just PM me.
