Question manual transmission/transfer case fluid?

I recently changed the fluid in my transfer case and put in Mercon V. I'm getting ready to change my manual transmission fluid and was doing some searching online and found that there is a lot of misinformation and questions about Mercon V vs Mercon III and which should be used for different applications. Should my '99 Ranger w/ a 5spd manual get Mercon III, Mercon V, or does it matter? Should I have not used Mercon V in my transfer case? Hopefully somebody can clear this up for me.

thanks,

Mercon V is different from regular Mercon...they generally are NOT interchangeable. I don't think it's an emergency or anything, but maybe you should think about draining the transfer case and putting in regular Mercon when you get a chance. At the very least, it will give you peace of mind knowing that you put in the stuff that Ford says to put in there.

If your 5-Speed manual tranny calls for regular Mercon as well, then that is what you should use.
