Under rear seat storage removal

Hey all, has anyone removed the rear storage bin under the back seat? I am going on a fairly long trip this weekend and will be bringing my dog. I usually just fold up the seat and put a blanket down and he sits in the small floor space but this is only to the park or a small trip. Hes a big boy and a long trip will not work like this for him.

I haven't looked yest but can you just unbolt the compartment and gain that floor space or do I need to remove the rear seat completely?

Yes, just remove the bolts and it comes right out (there is a 12V plug you will need to disconnect). I had a 2004 F250 which had the flat folding rear seat tray and liked it better because I also had a dog. I found one on Craigslist and put it in my current 2016 F350. Bolts in perfectly. You can also order one from FORD but they are a little pricy at around 500 bucks I believe.

Awesome I was hoping it would simply unbolt, that will free up a lot of room for my pup. I do like the lockable box as I do use it and keep items in it. I really like how they made it collapsible on the 2017 model.

Thank you!

I usually just throw a comforter over the seat in its normal position and my dogs ride there. They love it.

Have you seen the beds that fit between the edge of the seat and the seatbacks on the front seats. You get a large "bed" that way. although not sue how they would work for dogs. I believe these were made for humans which don't have claws.

There is also this, which is available and BB&B

I got a Dog Hammock ( different fro the one Dak posted above) Mine was about $50 and was made from Cordura. So it's tough and keeps all the mud, dirt, hair from getting on the seats and carpet.

For me, It also kept my dog from jumping from back seat to front seat and back and forth the entire trip.

I made one from .125" aluminum topped with Carpet and it is hinged to fold up when I use that backseat. It bolts down to the same holes the tray uses.

Thanks guys, yeah I have see those dog hammocks as a matter of fact I believe the wife just ordered one. It wont be in before we leave tomorrow but I have one coming. When I got home yesterday I had the storage box out in about 5 min, 6 bolts and one 12v plug. This will gave me the space I needed, I'll put down a nice big padded moving blanket and then his big dog bed. Its a 10 hour ride so I wanted plenty of room for him.

Thanks guys for the replies!

Did the same thing. Found the old fold flat floor and love it. You will need to put a dog bed on the fold flat floor for the dog to be comfortable as the floor has a "ribbed" design

I have the 2017 truck with the collapsible bin - it is more rugged than it looks, but the "flat floor" is a slight compromise. When the bin is collapsed down, it still sticks up about 3/4" higher than the carpet.

I pretty much keep mine assembled.

They need to change the name from fold flat to almost flat floor then.

It's clever, but if you put a dog cage in there the cage would be slightly tipped to one side.

The F-150, without the bin system, is totally flat. True cleverness would have been a slight indent in the floor pan stamping, but that would have ruined the cost savings of the shared cab.

In the 2011-2016 trucks, there was a 12V outlet in the storage bins...no longer the case in the collapsible bin, obviously.

Believe it or not, I have used my 12V outlet several times in the underseat area. Mainly with an extension on it to bring it up into the cab so both of my kids could have their own 12V power to charge their phones/laptop. Although I have also charged stuff that I stored there.

To be honest, not the end of the world if I didn't have it, but because I did, I took advantage of it.

The 2017 trucks have four 12v outlets:
-1 on dash
-2 inside center console
-1 at rear of center console

The 2011-2016 trucks had six 12v outlets:
-2 on dash
-1 inside dash-top media hub
-1 inside center console
-1 at rear of center console
-1 inside left storage bin under rear seat

Both trucks had two 110v outlets. The big difference is the old truck's 110V outlets are 150W and the new truck's are 400W.

Both trucks had 2 USB ports, with the only difference being the new truck's are illuminated.
