I need to replace the hood on my 1978 F150. At some point in the truck's past life the hood was repainted and now is in stark contrast to the patina of the rest of the truck. Someone did some terrible body work on the hood before it was painted and now it has some damage from the bottom that occurred when something got between the idler pulley and the belt. A chunk of the pulley was thrown up against the inside and actually pierced the hood.
Is there an easy way to check all the junk yards without called each one to ask? I need a silver hood with lots of patina, thinking there has to one close...
Hood is the same: 1973/79 F100/880 & 1978/79 Bronco.
Hoods will interchange 73-79&78/-79Bronco yes, BUT 78/79 hoods have "relief cutouts" in the underside structure so that in the event of a crash the hoods will fold and not be driven towards the windshield. ALSO they had F O R D letters on the front of the hood as a stylistic design choice. Some hoods also had the underhood light. 4x4 and 1-ton trucks also had extra re-inforcing brackets below and above the hinges as well as one triangular piece bolted to the back of the hood in the middle, these brackets are seperate from the hood but use the same bolts as the hinges(maybe a bit longer bolts?) aside from the triangle piece, and can be added to any 73-79 truck or 78-79 bronco for added re-inforcement if desired.
