New to Ford and Diesel and 4x4's so I have nothing to go on here. But at freeway speeds the truck (96 F-250 XLT 4x4 fleetside long bed 7.3 diesel) sounds like it got a popcorn machine under the thing. In a regular car, I would expect to hear this in the passenger side dash and it would be a bubble in the cooling system or an a/c issue. Any Ideas.
Like I said I am truly new to all this and hope to pick some brains around here.
If you are not familiar with diesels, then it could just be the engine running at speed, doing its thing.
Diesels run on detonation(what you don't want your gas motor to do), so they are NOT very quiet(well unless it is a brand new one as they have really quieted them down).

Truly Thanx for the reply, I am used the sound of diesels (military) this is not the normal noises I have heard from other trucks. I say I am new to the Diesel but not new to turning a wrench (17 yrs with Nissan) It sounds like an air bubble stuck in the cooling system or a heater core restriction or even an A/C restriction in the airbox. the problem is it sounds like it is under the cab slightly forward of the seat.
[QUOTE=knottyrope;16804466]its is 20 years old, I know my door hinge pins need replacing which cause a bit of noise for me
While we are waiting for a video of the noise. I cut a piece of rubber hose about the same diameter and length of the hinge pins and put a cut down the length and slipped it over the pin. Works great and no noise and an easy shut of the doors.
