okay i am back revisiting a pain in my butt project. My 96 f350 powerstroke will not run. This problem has been going on over a year and several self proclaimed diesel mechanics have looked at the truck.every single sensor is brand new including the ICP also i have put a new fuel pump on it.
The truck cranks,i can hear what i believe to be the injectors clicking under the valve covers.there is no smoke.we poured diesel in the intake and it ran for a few seconds.I have off work for 3 weks and would rally like to get tis thing finally running
Start with the simplest and easiest things such as oil level good? Check for bad fuses, specially maxi fuse #22 on the engine bay. There's a lot of stuff that will not make these beasts run, I suggest you invest on a good scan tool capable of live data testing. I'll throw a shot in the dark and say maybe your IPR O rings might be compromised or the sensor itself.
My truck has been through 2 idms in the past year. No start, no smoke. If you're replacing all the sensors and taking to mechanics what's a couple hundred more for a rebuilt idm? I purchased a spare to carry and ran a direct battery ground to idm casing last time so it wouldn't strand me again.
Of all the parts thrown at it, what was TESTED? And what parts were shown to be faulty? What were the results (not just "it didn't start", but what TEST results were found) of replacing each part? Shotgunning parts at a no-start is expensive to begin with, and can quickly get doubly so if it turns out you've swapped good parts out for bad.
Following the trouble tree in the link in Jarrett's post, where are you?
where i am at is no pressure at the shrader valve while cranking, and no smoke coming from the tail pipe. The FPR screen has been cleaned,o-rings were changed.I put a brand new fuel pump on.The front fuel tank is full. The wiring harness on the fuel bowl was pretty ratty so i put a new one on.The filter is brand new. There are no leaks.A friend of mine said he dumped diesel in the intake and it ran for a few seconds.I wasn't around that day to confirm it was true. Also every part ive put on the truck are brand new except for the IDM. I have a snap on 2500 scanner (red brick) will this do any justice for problem solving?
Nothing digital will tell you about a fuel feed problem; it's purely mechanical. Have you checked the FSV? Or tried running the fuel pump supply line directly into a jerry-can of fuel, to bypass any FSV / tank line issues?
None of the wiring on the fuel bowl affects the running of the engine.
I'm no mechanic, so I'm just throwing this out there since you have replaced almost everything. How much fuel is in the tank? If it's low, there is a chance the known faulty shower head fuel pick up is not down in the fuel. I'm not familiar with pouring fuel in the intake like you would a gasser but if it did in fact run a bit, that leads me to think it's a fuel delivery issue.
You can take the lid off of the fuel filter housing and see if it is pumping fuel into it while cranking. It takes two people or a remote start switch.
