1989 Bronco II transmission/clutch/driveshaft?

Hello, I recently posed a question regarding a problem I have been having with my manual 2.9L bronco II. There is definitely a problem with the drive shaft (you can see a picture in my last post, I believe it is just two or three posts down)

My new question is that when I towed my car back home, a horrible grinding and clanking noise would erupt from seemingly the front end of the car.

What kind of clutch or transmission problem could this be? I towed in neutral. My hubs were not locked and I was in Two Wheel drive.

Also, the drive shaft spins even in neutral.

I'm at a loss, what do you all think?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

start by replacing the rear drive shaft. it will need replaced regardless. if you still cant move your bronco then the Tcase would be next on the list.

Hi Isaiah,

Is it the front or rear that you are talking about? I'm new as well and need to post and also have newtome 87 BII that's been sitting for years. First thing I did was put it on jack stands because I thought E_brake was stuck. Not the E_brake or brakes or ABS but something forward of the rear diff. When I shift into drive wheels spin reluctantly and with squeely grinding sound, but when I shift into neutral wheels stop like someone stepped on brakes. Yes I have auto trans, but just looking.

I saw the pictures you posted. Looks to me like you need a new drive shaft. And new friends!
