I found this little tidbit pretty interesting. Turbohunter was looking for wiper motor information and I was curious about how they worked. Here's a cool little, very simple explanation. I am sure there are more complex systems out there, but I thought this was cool.

The other method often used is called the 'gutter' system. Very similar to the above, but imagine a 8'' wide plastic rain gutter filled with your 'media' (soil, cocoa peat, fiberglass, rock, whatever, the plant will adapt) 200' long. That replaces the labor of setting up 200 buckets. The plants all share the same flume; water/nutrients are recycled as dictated by plant needs.

I had no idea what a Dutch Bucket was, but happened across a different video showing how to make one. Still didn't know exactly why I would want to make one, until this guy explained the how and some of the why.

Over a million views, so there must be a lot of folks doing hydroponic gardening.

Anybody watch any of Larry Hall "up in Brainerd, Minnesota" videos?

He has a much shorter growing season than we do, and is quite successful.

He, too, uses a lot of this kind of thing, including a good use of the gutter system.

Here's an example, using WalMart bags and nut cups:

It's been a while, so he may have made some changes in his "how-to" videos.

DragonMan's wife met an untimely demise as a result of a freak pyrotechnic accident while prepping for a pilot for a Reality TV show.

On the other site (where I copied this link), someone joked he forgot to put holes in plastic over his wife...
