Hi everybody! New at this forum and I'm trying to figure out som stuff here. I'm having a problem with my cam sensor on my 98 ford ranger 4.0l OHV Engine. First it was a real pain to get it out and now when I look at it it's seems to be ok. No cracks, no corrosion and the magnet is in good condition. It has 3 pins and I'm wondering how to measure it with a multmeter? Also the connecter? witch colors go to what and how to test it? And do I have to find the dead center on the engine even if I just removed the sensor and haven't cranked the engine or nothing?
many thanks for all advice!
I see you don't have any replies yet, so I'll see if I can get things started.

Thanks for replying. I think i have sorted out wich wire goes to what and I'm starting to do some measuring to day. I also picked up a sensor from the junk yard for free so I will test that to before buying a new one. to be continued
Ok, let us know how it goes. If you have to come by a new sensor, make it Motorcraft, or BWD, avoid Dorman as they don't have a good reliability reputation.
