Getting harder to get into the truck, so I decided I needed some help. The yellow truck has diamond-plate running boards, but that doesn't fit the style of the brown truck with the factory cactus-smasher. I thought about the stirrup-style steps, but decided on the flat-top nerf bars
I ordered the DeeZee 3700301 from an eBay vendor, and they arrived quickly and safely oackaged. Good thing they were packaged well, as the box was beat to heck. There was no listing for my specific vehicle, so I went with the universal. Many new holes later...
Using jack-stands to hold the bar up while I decide on final position
Looking good, how about a brand and model or part # you ordered?
As far as making them a little more secure, what about welding an additional support bar on the top? Like the top red diagonal line? 1/2 round bar stock or 1/2 square tubing with angle cut ends?
And then what about adding a drop support bracket of some sort (angle iron welded to the frame) from the frame flush down the back side of the bracket that has no support and is not flush with the frame? Red line #2 is open correct?
Or add a piece of flat stock (3/16" or 1/8th) the same size as the complete flat bracket? No welding needed there.

The part is DeeZee 3700301
thanks for the suggestions-I like both those ideas. Unfortunately...
the actual side-step is larger diameter than the support tube, so an angle bracket support would have to be welded to the step. That's not a deal-breaker, just something I need to think about first as I don't weld
The kit did come with angle-iron support brackets, and I did install them in the back. Unfortunately, the suspension bar thing is directly under that part of the frame-no access without pulling that part

now I know I am old, I remember when nerf bars were a form of minimal bumper (used to see em on hot rods and VWs a lot) which were essentially single curved bars, one on each side of the car like https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails...tCode=C13-3107... hopefully kept the car from getting 'nerfed' and satisfied the law by having a bumper, albeit one weighing hundreds of pounds less.
I bought a set of new in the box off of a guy on FB market place. The set was for 80-96 Ford trucks I think it was. Either the next generation. I only had to make a new rear mount plate and used the original that was in the kit as a guide. Didn’t have to drill any extra holes in the frame or anywhere etc....for my 77 SB4x4.
