Hey y'all I've owned this truck since April (2000 F-250 7.3), been on here under a different username (NM_91IDI) for a while before that tho. I get terrible mileage in my truck and I don't understand why. I know my transmission will need rebuilt in the not-too-distant-future, but it doesn't explain why I'm only ever getting 11 mpg. It's a clean runner, no smoke, white or black. None. Yes, I drive city mostly, shorter distances usually, and I'm not always hauling. Mpg's have been consistent since April. I think it's got 373 gears, since I'll do ~2200rpms (ish) at 70mph. It's got a banks six-gun tuner in it, but I don't hardly ever rip on the truck. Tires are slightly oversized, but not much. Just recently had a Trans fluid flush and oil change. Help?

I'm not saying that there's not anything wrong with the vehicle but you already know why you get "terrible" mileage (based on what you think you SHOULD be getting) as you already typed it out.

My thought also. I suspect my mileage is not much greater in town and I am not running a tune and have stock tires. Just a lot of weight to get rolling light after light.
I went from mid-14s to low 12s a year ago but performance seemed the same (same driving style). Had a small fuel leak from the bowl and several oil leaks.
You're losing something (boost, oil, fuel). If you don't feel a loss in performance you've had it so long that you don't know the difference (boost/drive pressure) or you're losing delivery (fuel, oil). If you don't have a boost gage definitely build the boost leak detector. Check for leaking up-pipes (soot on the firewall is a good indicator). Also check the valley to see if anything is pooling up (and in which pocket - there are 3).
Have you changed driving styles? I mentioned 'same driving style' earlier. If I drive however I want around town and do 65mph on the freeway I get mid-14s. If I drive however I want around town and do 75mph on the freeway I get mid-12s. It doesn't take much to see a drop in fuel economy for a 8000lb brick.
As a side note I have 3.73 gears in my truck. I have 285/75-16 tires (slightly oversized) and I cruise at 1800rpm at 65mph and ~2000rpm at 70mph. 2200rpm is closer to 80mph for me and my mpg goes in the toilet quick for anything over 65mph.
Same here,12-13 all day long, Same set-up as Brian. But I sealed up all my exhaust leaks, and I keep my EBP sensor& tube clear. That alone got me back up from 10.

3 HPO leaks, 1 dipstick flange leak, leaking turbo pedestal, 1 leaking up-pipe, EPBV deleted, and Dynatrac hubs got me from 11mpg to 14mpg...and an empty wallet.
A 0-50 PSIG Gauge (anything that goes to 15 psig - I iuse this as part of a Leak Down Tester Setup) / Regulator, 3 1/2" Cap from Lowe's, Male 1/4" NPT Threaded Male and Female, Band Clamp, 1/4 x 20 Tap, and some Teflon Tape.
Attach Shop Air, begin with 5 psi and slowly increase pressure (helps identify small leaks) while increasing 5 psi each time until you have identified and leaks in the CAC System.
Use a mixture of high sudsing soap (Dawn or similar 1/5 mixture works well) and spray bottle. Spray every connection liberally including hoses, especially underside where chafing may occur while monitoring each.
Have never seen over 13 with my truck. Hear other 7.3 owners say they are getting 19-20. Man I sure with I could get there but I think it's just not in the cards for my truck.
My truck gets 18.5 mixed driving and 12 with the 5th wheel attached. Although, if I was driving mostly city like you say you are, then I could see the MPG being down near 11. It is a good idea to check for leaks anyway, and relatively cheap for parts.
In the city I am currently getting 15 and 17 in the summer. On the highway I get about what Sous does, 18.2-18.5. I'm not quite sure why I don't have as large a difference as others do. There is a user with a completely stock truck that's getting about 21/25 all stock, but I'm unsure what style of truck his is (4x2 regular cab 8' bed I presume). I agree though, build a boost leak detector and also look for any fuel/oil leaks. My drain valve o-rings were gone causing me to dump fuel out everywhere I went, and subsequently my mileage went down.
