Looking at putting a 5 star tune in my 6.2 with the 3.73 gears. I would like for this to help when pulling heavy with my 5th wheel. If it doesn't I will swap gears to the 4.30. I was wondering if you think I can get tunes for BOTH rear ends loaded into one tuner and would use the 3.73 and then after the swap, change it to the 4.30.
I'm pretty sure the 5star tuner I tried on my last 6.2, due to the 3.73's too, had a prompt to select your gearing. I would call or email 5star, they can tell you right over the phone or email. The tuner did nothing noticeable for me towing my 10k CTL or my 7500lb toy hauler.
Now that I have 4.30's a tuner doesn't even cross my mind. My X4 just sits in a box.
Put the $400 of the tuner towards the gears, it is the best mod one can do to a 6.2 SD truck.
Maybe you live close to JohnHardy who hates his 4.30's, and trade him.
Seems very high to me, People on here have had 4x4's done in the 2k range. 2500-2800 is a very common price for both axles. I've only done a swap on a 8.8, but I would think the front end would be more involved than the rear end.
