I could have swore I had the info saved on my computer but I can't find it.
Someone once posted a chart of which wheelbase configuration gets which block size block and if it's tapered or flat (I think it was in the SuperDuty forum), but I can't find it now.
Drove the X to work and back today. 20 min one way, mostly 70-75 mph. No vibes. Can I install tapered wedges under the block (or between the block and spring) to adjust pinion angle, or would I have to get tapered blocks, if I need them?
While driving the X to work today, with radio off this time, I can hear a droning noise coming from rear end that wasn't there before. Can't really feel it, not like I could when I lifted my TJ 5" in the rear and had really bad vibes. Happens around 70mph, just like someone posted earlier. So, can I just add steel shims, and if so , do they go under block or on top of block? Or do I need to get tapered blocks instead? I can probably bring the blocks to work and have them milled to a taper. Are 4" tapered blocks 4" on thick end or thin end? Help!
Do you have a double cardin joint or single joints?
You need to do some measuring....
Typically if you lift a DC setup you have to increase the angle of the wedge over factory angle.
If you have a single joint setup no changes in angle over factory are needed when lifting......up to a point.
We need to know if you have a DC or single setup to be of much help.
When I did mine I put clamps on my springs and loosened the bolt that holds the springs togather and added the wedge to spring pack with a bolt holding it and springs togather.
just went out and looked under X, finally. It is a DC driveshaft after all. I'll have to check the angles of the tcase and the pinion next, but I can clearly see that the pinion is almost parallel to the ground. From owning a TJ and modding it for years (before I took a loss trading it on the X) I know that the pinion angle and the driveshaft have to be in line, maybe pinion down a degree or two due to rotation of pinion under load. Looks like I'll have to get shims to install in the rear. Also I have cut down front secondary springs to add in as AAL as well. The 4" blocks made the X exactly level, now I want the rear up just a little over the front. Just like my Jeep, the mods never seem to end.
