Block Heater

Hey Fellas,

I recently had my factory block heater replaced with a aftermarket 1000 watt heater and I hardly notice a difference. My block heater is located on the drivers side.

Does anyone know if there is another plug on the passenger side? I would like to add a second block heater for those really cold nights.

Thank you,

BBD

The factory should have been a 1000w unit IIRC, so you shouldn't really see a difference? Unless the other was broke if course......

The one they pulled out was a little smaller than the replacement. Not saying that it wasn't a 1000 watt... Just smaller.

Is there another port on the passenger side?

The block heater mounts through the oil cooler head housing so no, there would not be a port for it on the other side of the block.

I am thinking that I should have went with the 1500 watt and used a timer for cool nights and no timer for really cold nights...

Any suggestions for getting extra heat to the block?

I appreciate the help.

Thank you,

There are dip stick heaters and magnetic heaters that stick to the oilpan. Where do you live that the stock heater isn't enough? Maybe you have other issues?

Keep in mind if you add more heating units you will likely need another circuit so as to not overload the one you are using now. Also if you go with the 1500 watt unit your cords must be heavy and in excellent condition lest you awaken to a burned up truck. Even the 1K watt unit draws enough to warm up the extension cord pretty good and has caused fires when cords become compromised.

I haven't heard anything from anyone that one block heater is not enough. Many have even reported starting 'er up well below freezing without one even.

Just south of Rockford Illinois.

I plug in my truck when I get home and let it simmer all night. The temp gauge only goes above the C - mark. Still have to let it idle a few to warm up...

No Problems starting. It fires right up.

I just dont like having to let it idle while it gets up to operating temperature..

You aren't gonna get around that......The heaters are only for making it easier to start. you still have to let them warm up, or your gonna break something.

I would just add that fact to the list of reasons you should be compiling to present to your wife as to why you need a large, heated garage.

Now that makes a lot of sense.

I plug mine in when it gets into the teens and set the timer for 2 hours before I leave for work. It warms the oil enough to let it turn over with no problems. Any time more than that your giving your power company your money.

Factory style block heater is more than enough.

Put it on a timer and let it run 2 hours or more before you try to start. Makes a big difference. Still have to let it idle for a little bit before you walk on it, but temp gauge comes up way sooner.
