I'm looking to order a F450 soon, and after feeling the seats, am leaning towards a Lariat. As near as I can tell, you can get everything that the Platinum or King Ranch has on a Lariat by selecting the options correctly, except:
- Leather is different
- Active Motion seats
- Various trim pieces saying Platinum or King Ranch
- Lighted sill plates on the Platinum
So, why is the price so different?
Fully optioned Lariat F450: $80,325 (X-plan: $75,723)
Same options on KR F450: $83,370 (X-plan: $76,685)
Same options on Platinum: $83,965 (X-plan: $79,346)
$3K seems like a lot for those differences - especially because the F450 wheels are the same across all three trims. Am I missing something?
BTW: Ford chat confirmed that the snow plow / camper package don't change the springs or sway bar on the F450. You get a nice piece of paper saying you can put a camper on the truck for $149.

Resale value will be more for the higher trims as well. When you buy a used higher trim model, you KNOW it has the goodies. Adding the goodies to the lower trim doesn't bring the resale up as much as having it standard on the higher model. (that all makes sense in my head, but not sure if I'm typing it out well )

Agreed! When you go to trade it you will get your money back, plus there are fewer high trim levels for sale on the used market which helps.
Look at Kelly Blue Book or NADA and see the selections it gives you for options on a trade. High trim levels gives you the full value of most all options, where some of the lower trim levels don't.
My dealer will always have a used Lariat, however they rarely get in a used Platinum or King Ranch.
I would go to NADA or KBB and option out the same truck in in both trims levels of last years model just to see the difference in the trade value.

Honestly....I got a Platinum for the sole reason that the grill wasn't "shiny" chrome. Seriously. I had a 2011 KR and thought about another KR...but the deal breaker for me was the orange line on the seats. I love the Java brown...just not the orange. It really came down to those two details that made my decision on what trim level to go with. I'd be happy driving any of the trim levels....but happiest driving a Platty !!

Only thing I regret now is not getting a F350. Of course, if I got the F350 I'd regret not getting the F450. Or the DRW.
I should have been born the rich son of a much richer father. I'd have all these trucks.
