I have a 2002 Explorer with 22,000 miles on it. I normally ride around with the message center configured to display the compass heading and odometer on the bottom line and nothing on the top line. I often see something flashing on the normally blank top line. I set up a web camera to capture the flash and discovered it is the compass heading and odometer shifted left one character. The flash lasts for approximately 1/2 second and I have not been able to determine what causes it. I have seen it driving at highway speeds, city road speeds, sitting at a stop sign.
I first reported this to my local dealer over 4 months ago providing them with still shots from the web cam capture! Local dealer has replaced one or more 'computers' four times now. I have been told Detroit is looking into it and no one has ever reported this before.
All I keep hearing now is "detroit is looking into it".
This may sound far fetched, but it doesn't have anything to do with the AutoLights feature ?? I can't stand it when it's a dark, or hazy day and it triggers my headlights to go on and off. When they do, my interior lights change brightness. I couldn't figure out what was happening for the longest time, all I would see is a flash out of the corner of my eye, but it happens so fast, it wasn't very obvious what was happening.
