Okay, background. I have a 2000 F250 SD, it came with the factory towing kit. Gooseneck hitch, trailer brake, etc (according to the build sheet I got from Ford).
Before I purchased it, it had been in a rear end collision, so someone had stripped the trailer hitch, and the trailer plug.
I've since replaced the trailer hitch, but have not gotten a plug on it yet. It still has the factory connector underneath the bed, where I can just plug in a replacement plug harness, but I'm getting confused looking at the different things available.
I was originally looking at this one (link) but after reading the info, I believe it's for trucks that were wired for 4 flat, not 7 blade connectors, and it just converts it to a 7 blade style plug. that won't work since I need to be able to add trailer brakes again also.
Anyone done this before? I know I can just break down and buy a generic and start manually wiring, but I really don't want to since the truck already has the connector and everything.
Unfortunately, none of my local yard even have any of these trucks. I looked at all of em when I was looking for the trailer hitch, and some other parts. I may start looking around for someone with a parts truck.
I replacee from the plug back to the seven pin on my 02 by just buying it from the dealer as a nit wit has used a bunch of speed clips and buthered my wiring, but what you have linked to looks like what I bought. I'm not sure what you think that is for a four pin. That is a standard seven pin.

I believe that's the one you're looking for. Look above the spare tire and make sure the plug is still there before buying.
Well, I was thinking that was the right thing, the plug is obviously a 7 blade, that I realize. But the description says that it's for upgrading trucks with OEM 4 flat to 7 blade. I'm afraid it will only have the wires for 4 flat, sort of like an adaptor so you can plug in a 7 blade plug, but not necessarily have brakes capability.
I'm not sure either way, I might just have to order it and make sure they have a good return policy.
I have checked underneath the truck, and compared it to my dad's superduty, and it looks like the plug is intact and they just unplugged the wiring when removing the hitch.
If you listen to the video it also says it will replace a damage 7-way. Which way it works should only depend on how many wires in the receptacle you are plugging it into.
so long as the rectangle plug like on the linked harness is still there under the truck and not messed up, order that harness from etrailer plugger in and git on down the road.
That will work but like Justin showed the factory will pigtail a flat 4 in the harness. If you don't need a flat 4 no problem or you can add you own to the plug you listed.

not having the factory 4pin is no big deal, just order a 7 to 4 adapter from etrailer. the 97 and back trucks and vans only had the 7way and you used a adapter for your 4 pin flat needs .

I bought the hitch from an '08 that had that style plug but I backed in to something and busted the plastic covers off, and I like them being somewhat protected from the weather. The big advantage is that you have BOTH a 4-pin and a 7-pin right there. Zero adapters needed unless you have something that is 6-pin...
That harness should be what you need, it has the same rectangle plug that my 2000 F350 has. I ended up cutting the 4-flat off and soldering in a 7-blade.
